Success Driving Scriversi’s Partnership with Relevant Software

Have you ever wanted to modernize how your organization creates and maintains documents, eliminate silos, and secure document content once and for all? Well, you are not alone. Scriversi’s CTO and founding member, Dr. Liam Terblanche, could not only see the problem and come up with a solution but also found the right technology partner – Relevant Software to implement it exactly as he saw fit.

The problem that needed a solution

Dr. Liam Terblanche has 25 years of software development experience covering all aspects of SDLC. For the past few years, he has focused on microservice architecture and DevOps. But his main passion has always been engineering.

200+ companies from 25 countries outsourced software development to Relevant

We provide companies with senior tech talent and product development expertise to build world-class software. Let's talk about how we can help you.

Although one of the biggest disappointments he had to deal with in the industry was the mismatch between project documentation, code, and deployment. Important details can go unnoticed or get lost because there is always no time or resources to systematize that.

So, as a programmer, he had to interpret scripts and look at people’s comments to decipher what was going on. And things have only gotten worse as software development has shifted from a traditional client-server to a multi-server microservice architecture with many moving parts.

“We can put robots on Mars but can’t keep our documents up to date. There has to be a solution to it”. Dr. Liam Terblanche, CTO of Scriversi

Therefore, Dr. Terblanche turned to his friends and colleagues to propose a solution to tackle this problem. But as they didn’t have the capacity to do it independently, they decided to outsource the development. Many excellent reviews about Relevant’s completed projects convinced Dr. Liam to delegate this task to our DevOps engineering team.

“It was the first time I worked with a completely outsourced team. From project managers, engineers, and testers, to UX/UI specialists. I could focus on the vision and leave the minutiae to the team to realize”. Dr. Liam Terblanche, CTO of Scriversi

How Relevant worked on the software

Relevant Software, established in 2014, is a global software development company that provides comprehensive IT services. Our main goal is to help companies and startups worldwide design, build, and support unique custom software to drive their business growth.

We always keep clients’ specific needs in mind, developing innovative software functionality and taking responsibility for customer results.

Dr. Terblanche’s challenge forced us to be as creative as possible in the development process. We started with API integrations POC but ended up with full-cycle product development.

“It’s not only the product – it’s the IP of making that product grow, mature, and improve year after year, handling the load and all the stressors. Technicality is a very small part of that. So I’ve ensured we approach the right people to care for the rest.” Dr. Liam Terblanche, CTO of Scriversi

Via features developed by Relevant, Scriversi users can create their own accounts, invite people, and easily manage permissions and edits without separating confidential data into separate documents.

Also, users can create a document or templates, add sections, customize their documentation throughout their company (style, fonts, etc.), share permissions, review the document’s history, and import, export, and share documents with others. With Scriversi, any DevOps tool that can trigger webhooks can be used to keep one’s documentation updated without user intervention.

“This is a novel approach to an old problem. Each paragraph in your document can be driven by different external events. History is kept and restorable per paragraph.

From a marketing strategy perspective, it makes sense to keep your message simple and to stay focused. And we know that this is a huge pain point in the DevOps development industries. But there’s no reason why this won’t work very well in every other industry.” Dr. Liam Terblanche, CTO of Scriversi

Becoming Strategic Partners

Scriversi has recently started its first round of beta testing. The open beta will follow early in Q1 2023.

“We need the freedom to rapidly innovate and make changes during the closed beta while I get honest feedback from people we know and trust. But the product will speak for itself; we’ve worked very hard in terms of usability, making it as intuitive as possible. And once you understand the principle, it will be very easy for you to start using it and get hooked on it and then not want to do it in any other way.” Dr. Liam Terblanche, CTO of Scriversi

Finally, Liam Terblanche shared his attitude toward remote collaboration and the lessons he learned from his first outsourcing experience.

“Thanks to Covid-19, we were all compelled to reinvent the work-life balance. Working from home seemed easy for some companies, but I know of entities where this wasn’t the case. It’s a two-way street; you must have the right people on your team.

As an engineer, one never wishes to micromanage. But you still want to understand everything, which makes for an exciting challenge when dealing with new teams. How does one stay on top of the technical aspects and still give the teams the freedom to innovate?

With outsourcing, I had to accept that this would not be possible. I had to trust the Relevant team explicitly. I continued monitoring their code, and we implemented quality gates early in the CI/CD process. However, there’s still a lot that can go wrong if the wrong choices are made architecturally.

The Relevant team was ready to go the extra mile to help us reach our goals and expand our business globally. And since we all work remotely anyway, whether the team is 20 or 20 000 kilometers away becomes a moot point.” Dr. Liam Terblanche, CTO of Scriversi
